Best alternative to Glo BBCmonth for Blackberry users

Recently we all witnessed Globacom Nigeria increase its Blackberry complete month tariff from #1000 to #1400. For Android users that uses IMEI tweak, you just have to cough out the added amount or else no 3gig data for you.

Blackberry users, however, have a better alternative to avoid this increment. This alternative is to switch to Airtel which offers the same 3gig data at #1000 only. I know what's on your mind - Airtel consumes data indiscriminately. I can boldly tell you that this particular package does not consume data anyhow.

How can i get this package?

Just dial *431# to get the package at #1000

Dial *123*175# to check data balance

Note: this works only on BB10 and other lower versions of Blackberry devices

After its successful launch of the Blackberry PRIV, there are strife rumours that the Canadian company is about to launch another Android OS device tagged 'VIENNA'.

The Vienna is more of traditional look compared with its predecessor - the PRIV. The phones comes with a 3:2in screen aimed at balancing display proportions and overall dimensions.

On the back side of the phone is the BlackBerry logo and a fine textured pattern similar to the one on the Z3 and Leap. Furthermore, the back cover is unlikely to be removable, as a visible card slot can be spotted on the left side of the phone.

What to expect from Blackberry 10.3.2 OS update

Blackberry recently rolled out the version 10.3.2 of its operating system globally. Here are some of what to expect from this new update:

i. Anti-theft in Blackberry protection

As we are all aware, Blackberry distinguishes itself when it comes to privacy and security of its users -  from the new update BlackBerry Protect now enables users to disable their device if it’s stolen or lost ensuring no person can wipe and reactivate your BlackBerry.

According to Blackberry, anti-theft is applicable only if,
Provided you have confirmed your BlackBerry ID, Anti-Theft Protection associates your BlackBerry ID with your device, and provides you with the ability to disable your device using a new Flag as Stolen option.
When used, Flag as Stolen will erase your device memory and disable your device, unless the BlackBerry ID which was used to setup the device originally with Anti-Theft Protection, is entered on the device.
In other words, unless your device is returned to you, no one else will be able to setup the device again since they do not know your BlackBerry ID credentials.

ii. Better Camera

For selfie lovers Blackberry says

Productivity and efficiency comes in many different forms. Many of us can’t afford to spend 5 minutes fiddling around with shot after shot trying to get a clear image every time we want to take a picture.
The camera enhancements with 10.3.2 include: low light performance in auto-mode, improved face-detection, and reduced blur caused by motion. All of these make taking pictures in any situation as easy as point-and-shoot.

iii. Blackberry Calender

For executives and busy ones

Meetings. Meetings. And more meetings. Many of us have full schedules, and with the 10.3.2 update, the BlackBerry Calendar comes to the rescue.
As always, when you enable Meeting Mode on your BlackBerry Calendar, your phone automatically sets your phone to quiet for the duration of your meeting. With 10.3.2, you can now customize this feature to work however you need it to by specifying the events controlled by Meeting Mode, such as adding calendars to the ignore list.
And back by popular demand, your BlackBerry Calendar month view will show shrinking & growing date numbers depending on how busy your schedule is that day to show you just how busy the workday is at a glance.

Also released with this new update is the Blackberry Blend 1.2 version which comes with a fresh user interface. This new design eases navigating and interacting with your messages and content. Have you downloaded yours? share your experience with us by leaving a comment

Images of Blackberry's Android OS venice device surfaces

Speculations of Blackberry introducing a fully Android OS smartphone is now real as new images have emerged to confirm this rumor.

This device named 'Blackberry Venice' has been rumored to in the making by many tech enthusiasts several months ago, now that images of the device has surfaced we can now await the official launch of the Blackberry venice soon.

Blackberry however, made some changes with the placement of the SIM card and microSD slot placed at the very top of this new device, diverting from all previous rumored designs that have the power button at the top. Aside other images of the device that have surfaced, this one apparently shows the display powered on and running what is presumably Android Lollipop.

The phone also has Qwerty keypad which is revealed when you use the slider of the phone.  It also features an 18MP camera, the main shooter boasts optical photo stabilization and fast focus, so we predict there's some phase detection tech in the device. The device lens is also joined by a dual-LED flash
We are not sure of the version of Android OS its running, but the image shows Android Lollipop which is two years old and it can not be Marshmallow because it hasn't been launched yet. Lets wait and see what the Company has up its sleeve...

BlackBerry now set to fully produce Android OS smartphone

We could be witnessing BlackBerry's first handset running Android as early as August this year according to new rumours.

The device, which is presently codenamed BlackBerry Prague, is clearly a low-end smartphone that could be based on the BlackBerry Z3, a budget phone that was unveiled in 2014.

We speculate the specs of the BlackBerry Prague might end up being rather modest. The company is also preparing to release another handset, the BlackBerry Venice, which will come with a 5.4-inch curved QHD display and a six-core Snapdragon 808 chip – and could potentially run Android as well.

Consumers who are addicted to BlackBerry's smartphones but not been too impressed with the software it ships with, then these two new phones might change your mind.

However, with all this new directions, Blackberry has reiterated its stance that its not giving up on BB10 operating system.

Activate Whatsapp voice calling service on your Windows and Blackberry device

WhatsApp has recently added the voice calling service to its update in the latest version of the Android app. The voice calling feature is available on the 2.12.19 update and for now has to be downloaded through the company’s official website, although it should soon be available for download in the Play Store as well. Android users can download it here.

For Blackberry and Windows users to get this feature -

Make sure you have the latest version of Whatsapp installed on your BB10 and Windows phone.

Next step is to look for a friend who has the voice calling service feature already on his/her device and give him your number to put a call to you through Whatsapp and gbam the service will be activated on your device too, be it Blackberry or Windows phone. Also do you know you can save call credits by using whatsapp call service regardless of any region you are.

Whatsapp initially rolled out the voice calling feature a while back but instead of making it available to all users at once, they implemented a sort of an invite system, where a user who already has the voice calling feature has to call you for you to get the calling feature.

The latest update now gets rid of all that hassle and any user who installs it will get the feature automatically. Also with the calling tab is the settings to customize the ringtone for voice calls the way you had for chats and group messages.

Get the best tips and tricks out of your Blackberry10 OS 10.3.1

Every blackberry 10 user are now upgrading to the newly released OS 10.3.1 software update. However only few people can fully utilize all the newly added features as some are obvious while others are not. In this write-up, i will break down the apparent and non apparent features in the newly released OS 10.3.1. For tips on how to upgrade your software read here

With its modern look and slimmer design the OS 10.3.1 is soothed for business or enterprise users. If you love playing games, stick to android or IOS.

APPARENT FEATURES

i. Homescreen wallpaper -

Unlike the previous version, the new OS 10.3.1 has a blank homescreen with no app menu display, but with a home icon at the bottom to easily take you to homescreen when you are on any active frame. You can turn this off in the settings menu on display if you don't like it

ii. Smarter action bar

This is another brilliant upgrade for the OS 10. On each in-built app you open, the most common function appears bold in the center. For example open hub and you will see the compose button boldly in the center.

iii. Blackberry blend

This app allows users to install a dedicated piece of software on a Mac, PC or any Android tablet and then get instant message notifications, read and respond to work and personal text messages, Emails or BBM, and even access your documents, contacts, calender and media in real time.
The new software will sync all the messages in real time to the BlackBerry Blend software effectively giving you to the ability not to have the BlackBerry in the same room or building. As expected with BlackBerry, the new service will be powered through the BlackBerry network with system admins having the ability to set BlackBerry Blend parameters for users that match their security guidelines.

iv. Blackberry assistant

This can be referred to as Blackberry's version of SIRI, CORTANA and GOOGLE NOW. This app is designed to help you manage your BBM contacts, Email, calendar and other in-built BlackBerry 10 applications through both voice and typed commands.

v. Improved Hub and Email tricks

A newly added feature, called email triage, allows you to quickly delete or archive multiple emails at once at the click of a button, while you can now download all attachments at the same time in an email.
You now have the option to delete the original text if you are replying to a message. Also your drafts are automatically saved even if you swipe away from the message to do something else.

vi. Amazon application store
The new OS has the Amazon Appstore to broaden the app choice on the platform. Blackberry World is focused on productivity apps, while Amazon Appstore will offer lots of alternatives.

NON APPARENT FEATURES

i. Instant access to quick settings panel

You can now access the quick settings panel by swiping down from the top of the screen with two fingers. The panel will slide down showing a shortcut to the settings menu, as well as hardware toggles. Added to BB 10.3.1 is the ability to access this in any app with a two finger swipe. This means you can swith on bluetooth or turn on torch from Twitter without having to leave the app.

ii. Improved dial-up pad
If you start dialling a number through the dialpad, OS 10.3.1 will find matching numbers in the background. However this only works with phone numbers which is still restrictive, because sometimes just tapping in someone's name is easier, without diving into contacts first.
Universal search/Assistant can be a better alternative. Just type the number or the name, and local results appears.

iii. Expand your external SD card storage to 128GB

OS 10.3.1 now accepts larger capacity microSD cards, so you'll be able to use cards up to 128GB to expand the storage on your smartphone. That's better for storing files, be it movies, music, or documents.

iv. Monitoring your data

There's an added option for Data Management in the settings menu. You will find the option to set data limits, control roaming, as well as manage how email handles images, resizing and downloading.

v. Device gestures

Another added new feature is called Advanced Interaction. It allows you use the phone's sensors to enable certain actions like 'flip to mute' or 'flip to save power', 'lift to wake'. The former will let you extend the battery life of your smartphone putting it into standby mode when you place the device face down on a flat surface.
The previous option to swipe to wake is still available.

vii. Improved Battery life and media options

Through customisation, you can boost the battery life of your phone through power saving profile. Through settings you can restrict applications to save charge and therefore increase battery life by up to 15 per cent. New added media playback options include 17 preset equaliser modes for audio on music or video files. You can also favourite photos, songs and videos to make them more easily accessible.

Best ways to upgrade your Blackberry10 OS to '10.3.1.1565'

Every Blackberry10 users are trying to upgrade their OS 10.2 to the recently released OS 10.3. However most users are finding it difficult to achieve this due to the issue of 'not enough memory' that keeps coming up.

Relax you will be able to upgrade your smartphone easily if you follow these steps carefully below.

This issue of not enough memory as explained in by blackberry's official blog below

There is currently not enough free space (internal device memory) on the smartphone to install the update successfully. The BlackBerry 10 OS requires 2.5 times the downloaded package size, for example, an update package of 1GB will require a total of 2.5GB's free space to download and install successfully.

From the above statement most users especially Z3 users will observe that their phone memory cannot take the upgrade. Here is how to overcome this:
i. Upgrade your software through a Blackberry Link

Blackberry link is the official blackberry desktop software, if you dont have in your PC, download from blackberry official website here .

ii. Upgrade directly from blackberry software update center

You can also download the upgrade directly from blackberry's software update center by clicking this link 'http://www.blackberry.com/update' .

iii. Free up your memory space and then upgrade

This method is the best for most users in African countries, with this method, you will upgrade your software easily.
Please note that even if you delete all of the deletable apps and media files you may still not have enough memory for the upgrade.

The best to do is a security wipe for your phone, but before doing this please and please make sure you back-up your phone. Also make sure to delete all deletable applications and transfer all your media files to your external SD card. This is due to the time the wipe takes depending on the installed apps on you phone, it may even take 6 to 8 hours. But if you delete all the installed apps, it may just take an hour. Another advantage of this wiping is to delete all unnecessary files on your phone thereby freeing up your phone memory. After the wipe you will have enough space for the upgrade.

Goto settings and scroll to where the arrow is pointed in the image

After clicking you'll see, follow the steps and start the wipe

You should now have enough memory for the software upgrade.
Note: for users in some countries you may not be able to use your network carrier to upgrade as the phone will tell you to upgrade through wifi. You can buy data to your friends phone with wifi hotspot to do the upgrade
