Google Translate now works in any app on Android 4.2 or newer, iOS gets offline mode

Google last year introduced a new and very useful feature to Google Translate for Android, called the system-wide support for quick translations. Unfortunately, this new feature has so far only been compatible with devices running version 6.0 Marshmallow of Google's OS.

This has however changed as the simplified in-app translation functionality is now compatible with any device running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or newer. Whenever a user selects a bit of text - in any app on your Android phone or tablet, a translation button will instantly pop up.

If a user tap on it it will open into an overlay that will present to the user, the translation of the selected text right then and there, with no need to copy text first, then hop into the Google Translate app to have it converted into your language. This saves time for users and makes translating languages you randomly come across in various apps much simpler.

Apple iOS version of Google Translate is now joining its Android iteration in supporting offline mode. Furthermore, the data packages it uses are around 25MB each, so small enough to always have on your phone if you want to. The total number of languages that support this feature is presently 52, after Filipino was added.

Lastly, Google Translate also added Word Lens in Chinese. So users can point the camera at something that's written in Chinese and it will be instantly translated for the user. It works from and to English for both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. This is the 29th language that now supports instant visual translation. And like all the others, this works offline too.

All of the new features described above are going to be rolled out to the Google Translate apps for Android and iOS in the next few days.

Mozilla launches Focus - an ad blocker for iOS 9

Mozilla Firefox has lauched a free content blocker for Safari users on iOS 9 tagged 'FOCUS'. This new release puts users in complete control of their privacy by allowing them to block categories of trackers such as those used for ads, analytics and social media.

Further-more the new release also increases performance and reduce mobile data usage by blocking Web fonts. According to the Company -

Users can download and install Focus by Firefox from the App Store, and once it is installed, launching the app will provide a guide to finish configuration. Focus by Firefox will block the same trackers that are blocked by Private Browsing with Tracking Protection in Firefox for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, based on Disconnect’s open source blocklist.
Currently, Focus by Firefox only works with Safari, not Firefox for iOS. This was not our choice—Apple has chosen to make content blocking unavailable to third party browsers on iOS. We are exploring how we can provide this feature on Firefox for iOS and will deliver it as soon as it’s possible.

How to easily delete all photos from iPhone

Often times you might want to delete a group of photos or even wipe totally all the pictures in your iPhone. Due to the way the phone is built, users cannot delete all pictures at once. You can only delete a picture at a time, which is stressful and time consuming. However there is a way you can go around this by deleting the pictures in groups by following this simple steps.

If you happen to have a Mac, deleting all your iPhone photos at once will be very easy. Just connect your phone to Mac using the appropriate cable and then open up Image Capture as seen in your applications folder. You should see a window showing all the pictures on your phone. Click on that window - then press Command + A to select all your photos. You can now click the delete button  - press Delete when the warning prompt pops up. You should have successfully deleted all the pics in your iPhone.

If you do not have a Mac - Go to the Photos app on your iOS device, then ensure Photos is selected at the bottom of the screen. Click on a particular year, followed by a collection - you will observe your photos grouped into Moments, which groups them by date.

You can click the Select button in the upper-right corner, then select each grouping by tapping the associated Select indicators that appear. The little setback is that you still have to select each Moments group manually, but i bet you it's much better option than selecting each picture individually.

After you've selected all your Moments, tap the trash icon, then confirm that you want to delete the pictures, and all will be transferred to your Recently Deleted folder. To remove totally, go to Albums >> Recently Deleted, then tap Select in the upper-right corner, followed by Delete All in the lower-left corner. Now your pictures should be permanently removed from your device.

Apple launches 'Move to iOS' app in Google Playstore

Apple has formally introduced an app in Playstore to make it easy for Android users to switch to any of its iOS platform. The app dubbed ''Move to iOS'' was released in Google's Playstore yesterday and readily available for download.

As its name implies, the app allows interested or potential iOS users to move content from their old Android device to their new Apple gadget. Items that can be moved are contacts, pictures, videos, email accounts, bookmarks, calendar appointments,  and finally, messages.

This synchronization will only be possible over a private Wi-Fi network created by the iOS device. “Move to iOS” will work perfectly or usable on all Android devices running Android 4.0 and up.

I doubt if many will download this app because why would someone switch from Android to iOS, or would u?

Deleting pre-installed apps on your Iphone may soon be possible

Many users of Apple's IOS devices have often considered deleting some unused app one time or another - but with no success as pre-installed apps cannot be deleted. This however may soon change as Apple's CEO Tim Cook during an interview stated that the Company is well aware of the plight of some of its customers. He further stated that the company will figure out ways to make this possible for its customers.

The CEO explained why wanting to delete pre-installed apps is a "more complex issue than it first appears." He said the underlying problem seems to be how apps interact with one another.

"There are some apps that are linked to something else on the iPhone. If they were to be removed they might cause issues elsewhere on the phone," said Cook.

We support his reasons - if a user were to tell Siri to show weather forecast without the weather app, where would that data come from? similarly where would a Mail hyperlink beam you to with no Safari app?

Cook admitted that "there are other apps that aren't like that" and hinted that Apple may find a way to remedy everyone's junk drawer pet peeve.

"It's not that we want to suck up your real estate," said Cook, "We're not motivated to do that. We want you to be happy."

To Iphone users, when was the last time you bought music from the iTunes Store via your phone? or even if you have ever bought any? Wouldn't you want to delete iTunes store to free up space on your phone?  Share your opinion by leaving a comment

Android Wear smartwatches now compatible with iPhones

Google stated that its Android wear app for Apple IOS phones will be rolled out today and will be available for Iphone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 running iOS 8.2+ for download
.

However though, there is a limit with respect to which Android wear smartwaches you can actually use with your Iphone. For now, only the LG Watch Urbane Android wear is compatible with the IOS devices. But not to worry as Google has stated that the support will be available for other Android wear devices in the near future.

The Android will not be fully functional on your IOS like it will on an Android device according to Google. Nevertheless, you can perform some important actions like - phone calls, notification from your favorite apps, reading you messages, traffic information, when to go for your appointment, set your fitness goals, get daily and weekly views of your fitness progress, reminders and many more.

As usual, your Android Wear smartwatch automatically tracks your walking and running, it measures your heart rate, and then passes the information to you even if you're using the iOS app. Amazing integration by Google, what do you think?

Apple watch sales drops as sales graph shows no-one is buying Apple's latest tech toy

According to reports and figures, Apple smartwatch  has seen sales plummet since its official release.

When Apple launched the smartwatch in April, the smartwatch was selling 200,000 units a day - that sale has now reduced to less than 20,000 according to Slice Intelligence.

The company itself is yet to release any kind of official sales figures, which prompted Slice Intelligence to gather the data unofficially. According to slice, this was done by collecting electronic receipts sent to email addresses following a purchase.

Evident from the figures released shows that two-thirds of sales have been the cheapest Sport version (£299) of the Watch.

Apparently, careful analysis can dispel speculations that a 90% drop in sales spells the end of the Apple Watch. The early big sales can be chalked up to fans of the company who wanted to get in on the action at the initially - just like with an iPad or an iPhone.

Furthermore, if we take Slice Intelligence's statistics on other wearable smartwatches into account, it is apparent that Apple is selling far more smartwatches than its rivals even after the slump is taken into account.

Some great features introduced in the new IOS 9 you might not know

Apple recently released its IOS 9 operating system, however, during the unveiling the company did not really go into details of some great features it has added to its new operating system. I will be taking you through some of this amazing features to ensure you take full advantage of this new IOS upgrade.

i. Android migration App

Apple has introduced a new app in the IOS 9 upgrade called 'Move to iOS', which makes it easier for Android users to switch to iPhone.

This new app will transfer your message history, contacts, camera photos and videos, calendars, web bookmarks, wallpaper, email accounts and DRM-free songs and books, as well as suggest you download any free apps you had and will also add paid apps to your iTunes Wish List wirelessly.

I am very sure Google will not be pleased with this, but lets just await Google's response.

ii Newly introduced 6 digit passcodes

The new operating system will request from you a 6-digit Passcode rather than a 4-digit one in the previous versions on Touch ID-enabled devices. This is apparently to make your iPhone or iPad more difficult to break into, allowing for one million possible combinations in IOS 9 rather than the 10,000 that four digits allow in IOS 8.

However, if a user selects 'Password Options' when setting up his/her Passcode there's an option to switch back to a 4-digit one, so the new extra security isn't forced on you.

iii. Better Battery life

The company mentioned the new Low Power mode which comes with iOS 9, but there's another great feature that will make your Iphone last longer. Your iPhone will now detect if it's face down on a table and as such won't turn the screen on, even when you get a notification.

iv Find my phone and find my friends feature

Although this is not a new feature, initially users have to download it in the App store. Now this comes fully incorporated in the IOS 9.

v. Faster photo selection

Selecting multiple pictures has improved much in iOS 9, as users will be able to slide their finger over multiple photos rather than tapping them.

vi. Side switch feature

In iOS 9 users can toggle the side switch on the iPhone to lock rotation rather than mute the phone. This option is already available for the iPad, but for some reason had not been enabled on the iPhone, but now it has been added in the IOS9.

vii. ICloud attachment

The ICloud Mail app in iOS 9 is being upgraded to allow users add attachments from iCloud Drive. Users just have to long press in the body of an email and you'll get an attachment option pop-up.

viii. ICloud Drive App

Managing your iCloud has gotten a lot easier, as a new iCloud Drive app has been added in iOS 9 that lets users access all of their stored iCloud files from one place.

ix. New Font introduction

The Company has dropped the previous Helvetica Nue font with the San Francisco font used by the Apple Watch in IOS9. It's a subtle difference, but great font observers will certainly notice the change.

With this gadget, turn your Iphone into a Gameboy

Hyperkin video game hardware company has created a gadget that you slot your iPhone into to create an old school-style Game Boy.

The gadget called Smart Boy works with the iPhone 6 Plus and allows you to play Game Boy cartridges. This amazing gadget allows you the benefit of proper physical buttons while taking advantage of the iPhone’s screen.

The device is believed to come in the the classic 80s grey of the original Game Boy, although more colours may follow.

"We wanted to create a retro device that can be easily adapted into any modern gamer’s arsenal of devices," said the product's developer Chris Gallizzi.

He further said that his team would be working on a version for Android phones as well.

This won't be the only way to play Nintendo games on your iPhone as the Japanese video game developer recently announced it was working with a mobile game developer DeNA to build smartphone games featuring its iconic characters - including Zelda and Mario.

Amazing gadget for you on your smartphone if you are a game lover.

Activate Whatsapp voice calling service on your Windows and Blackberry device

WhatsApp has recently added the voice calling service to its update in the latest version of the Android app. The voice calling feature is available on the 2.12.19 update and for now has to be downloaded through the company’s official website, although it should soon be available for download in the Play Store as well. Android users can download it here.

For Blackberry and Windows users to get this feature -

Make sure you have the latest version of Whatsapp installed on your BB10 and Windows phone.

Next step is to look for a friend who has the voice calling service feature already on his/her device and give him your number to put a call to you through Whatsapp and gbam the service will be activated on your device too, be it Blackberry or Windows phone. Also do you know you can save call credits by using whatsapp call service regardless of any region you are.

Whatsapp initially rolled out the voice calling feature a while back but instead of making it available to all users at once, they implemented a sort of an invite system, where a user who already has the voice calling feature has to call you for you to get the calling feature.

The latest update now gets rid of all that hassle and any user who installs it will get the feature automatically. Also with the calling tab is the settings to customize the ringtone for voice calls the way you had for chats and group messages.
