Twitter to stop including user names, images and links in 140 characters

Since its inception, Twitter has always given numbers to everything within the text box in its 140 character limit. This shows that, as a user, if you were replying to someone their user names would take up part of your 140 characters. Similarly, if you added a URL or uploaded a picture, the link will also eat up part of the 140 characters.

However, this trend is going to change in the coming months, as the company has announced four changes that should allow users get the most out of the 140 characters.
- Usernames within a reply tweet will not be part of the 140 characters. Meaning even if a user is replying to one or multiple people, users don't have to worry about running out of characters for your tweet.

- Similarly shortened links in tweets also will not be part of the 140 character. Be it image or video link, polls or quoted tweets.

- A user can now retweet himself/herself, if that's something he/she wants to do.

- Users do not need to add a period before @ so he/she can tag someone and also have the tweet seen by your followers. Users will be able to start a tweet with someone's username and as long as it is not a reply, it will be visible to his/her followers. And if a user wants his/her followers to see a reply, he/she will be able to retweet it, as mentioned before in the 2nd hyphen.

The Company says it will be rolling out these changes over the coming months so developers have the time to incorporate them within their app.

How protected is your Eye from excessive light reflection from your Laptop/Phone/TV

As a Blogger or Smartphone/Computer/Internet addict you are always staring at a computer or phone screen for most of your day. Then you’re probably familiar with dry, red and tired eyes. You have probably tried most of the popular solutions; adjusting the window blinds, changing the angle of your laptop or monitor in relation to light sources, adjusting the brightness of the LCD screen or even increasing the font size on the screen.

However, these are only temporary solutions to a problem that will not go away as long as you’re spending so much time in front of the screen. Protection for your eyes is paramount and the short term symptoms of eye fatigue (headaches, difficulty focusing and blurred vision) can make your day difficult.

A simple way to go around this problem is to obtain an Anti-glare glass. These glasses block all the excessive reflection from your screen giving you a strain-less day. You can obtain these glasses for as low as 3k on Konga. Get yours on Konga now.

Google Translate now works in any app on Android 4.2 or newer, iOS gets offline mode

Google last year introduced a new and very useful feature to Google Translate for Android, called the system-wide support for quick translations. Unfortunately, this new feature has so far only been compatible with devices running version 6.0 Marshmallow of Google's OS.

This has however changed as the simplified in-app translation functionality is now compatible with any device running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or newer. Whenever a user selects a bit of text - in any app on your Android phone or tablet, a translation button will instantly pop up.

If a user tap on it it will open into an overlay that will present to the user, the translation of the selected text right then and there, with no need to copy text first, then hop into the Google Translate app to have it converted into your language. This saves time for users and makes translating languages you randomly come across in various apps much simpler.

Apple iOS version of Google Translate is now joining its Android iteration in supporting offline mode. Furthermore, the data packages it uses are around 25MB each, so small enough to always have on your phone if you want to. The total number of languages that support this feature is presently 52, after Filipino was added.

Lastly, Google Translate also added Word Lens in Chinese. So users can point the camera at something that's written in Chinese and it will be instantly translated for the user. It works from and to English for both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. This is the 29th language that now supports instant visual translation. And like all the others, this works offline too.

All of the new features described above are going to be rolled out to the Google Translate apps for Android and iOS in the next few days.

WhatsApp likely to release native Windows and Mac apps soon

Its no more news that WhatsApp can be used on our browsers, however, the company has taken a little step further by working on a native App for Windows and Mac.

A Twitter account by the name WABetaInfo who shared screenshots of WhatsApp translation website where users can see references to download links for Windows and Mac applications.

Tech enthusiasts are still wondering why the company would want to invest in developing native apps when it already has a web client that can be updated automatically anytime they want without the user having to download anything, easier to develop, and also support uploading files and desktop notifications in browsers like Chrome and Safari. The only reason Tech enthusiasts can think of is support for audio calls, which is presently not possible with the web client and can be achieved with the native app.

We will keep our fingers crossed are because we do not know how far the desktop apps are in terms of development for now. We will keep you updated

Best alternative to Glo BBCmonth for Blackberry users

Recently we all witnessed Globacom Nigeria increase its Blackberry complete month tariff from #1000 to #1400. For Android users that uses IMEI tweak, you just have to cough out the added amount or else no 3gig data for you.

Blackberry users, however, have a better alternative to avoid this increment. This alternative is to switch to Airtel which offers the same 3gig data at #1000 only. I know what's on your mind - Airtel consumes data indiscriminately. I can boldly tell you that this particular package does not consume data anyhow.

How can i get this package?

Just dial *431# to get the package at #1000

Dial *123*175# to check data balance

Note: this works only on BB10 and other lower versions of Blackberry devices

BBM free version adds message retraction and timed messages

BlackBerry on its recent new release of its Messenger client across Android, iOS, and BlackBerry 10 has added some useful new features.

The major new added feature here is message retraction. Users can now retract messages after sending them, or even edit them. This can be useful if you mistakenly sent something and don't wish the other person to see it. This works in one on one chats as well as group chats.

The recent update also supports timed messages now, where the messages disappear after a certain time once the recipient has seen them. Before both features were only available via a paid add-on.

Other additions made free include ability to mute group chats, scrolling through pictures sent over chats and groups, ability to save images captured within the app, larger videos on iOS, redesigned UI on iOS, check multiple messages to delete, forward, or retract, forwarding messages from one chat to another, and Android 6.0 support.

WhatsApp to remove support for Blackberry OS on its mobile platforms this year

WhatsApp has recently announced that it will be ending support for all versions of both BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 by the end of 2016.

Some other platforms that will be removed from this recent support list include Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1, Android 2.2, and Windows Phone 7.1. The company also says it wants to focus on platforms that the vast majority of people use. According to the Company's Blog...

"While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," the company said in a blog post. "If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp."
