If you are an technology oriented individual, you will always be fascinated with new inventions that keeps emanating daily.
Social media giant Facebook has added a new feature recently, and it’s already available for users in the US. Basically, Facebook now allows US users to add a “legacy contact” in the Security section of their account. This will represent the digital ‘heir’ or next of kin to your Facebook account after you die.
Once an individual notifies Facebook that you’ve passed away, the company will ‘memorialize’ the account and henceforth, at this point the legacy contact will be able to do certain things with it.
For example, the individual you designate as the heir to your Facebook presence will be able to remove or change the cover photo and profile picture for your account, also respond to friend requests from friends or family members who were not previously connected to you on the service. The legacy contact can also pen a special post that will be displayed at the top of the memorialized Timeline – to notify a memorial service, for example.
You also have the choice to let your legacy contact download an archive of your photos profile information and posts. Your settings will remain the same as while you were alive, However, there is a limit as this person won’t be able to log in as you or see your private messages. If you don’t want any of this to occur once you’re gone, then you can notify Facebook that you’d prefer to have your account permanently and totally deleted after your death.
Up until recently Facebook offered a basic memorialized account for people who passed away. This was only view-able but could not be managed by any friend or family, so this recent measures make things more flexible.
