Wireless charging to your car - Qualcomm partners with Daimler

From self driving cars to electric cars to speak out your destination, the car industry has proven to tech enthusiasts that it is not far behind when it comes to tech innovations.

Soon, in the near future we will be able to put your smartphone down on the arm rest - where it will begin charging automatically. Amazing innovation!

Qualcomm and Daimler (owner of Mercedes-Benz) have made known a new partnership to work towards in-car wireless charging. Both companies are also going to develop ideas for charging electric cars without cables.

The time of fiddling around with cables and cigarette lighter sockets could be over soon. In fact, this innovation could see your car's built-in systems might eventually be able to charge up your smartphone while it's sits in your pocket.

"It's important that we remain on the cutting edge of technology," said Daimler's Thomas Weber, echoing the thinking of every car manufacturer as the likes of Google and Apple jostle for position.

The partnership between Daimler and Qualcomm also encompass 3G/4G connectivity inside cars, which will be a heartbeat technology for getting map updates,
software patches and more straight to a vehicle without a smartphone.

Tech enthusiasts don't have any details of particular products yet or a timescale on when this might appear but it's encouraging to see car manufacturers getting up to speed with today's technology trend.
