Landscape and Portrait Formats for photos and videos now available on Instagram

Photo sharing giant Instagram announced on its blog yesterday that in addition to square posts, users can now share photos and videos in both portrait and landscape format on Instagram.

Up until this new introduction, all photos which were shared on Instagram had to be formatted into a square format. But with this new upgrade selfie-addicts or short film shooters can now show off their creations in both landscape and portrait orientations.

Often times nearly one in five photos or videos people post are not in the square format and this has not been easy to share this type of content on Instagram. Most times you have to adjust your photo so that your friends don't get cut out of group shots, also the subject of your video feels cramped and so on.

Thanks to the upgrade because now when choosing a photo or video, users can tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. Once a user shares the image, the full-sized version of it will appear to all of the users followers in feed in a beautiful, unaltered way.
