Instagram stealthly increases the resolution of its photos on its apps
Instagram has recently increased the size of its photo on its apps. Some Iphone users who have seen the upgrade would notice that the size of photos on the apps have increased to 1080 x 1080 pixels, up from the rather popular 640 x 640 pixels.
The increased resolution photos are not yet being displayed as such by Instagram, which still maintains its smaller default for now. But a quick review of the source code on Instagram's web view by tech analysts shows that new photos uploaded to it are being saved in 1080px resolution, indicating a full and public switch to the increased size in the coming days or weeks.
For tech enthusiasts who wish to view their own 1080px photos, use a desktop browser like Firefox or Chrome to open up an Instagram photo page's source HTML code, then search for ".jpg" within it. The result should be the URL to the larger version of the picture.
Instagram plans to release the new resolution to mobile devices first, but there is no timeline yet for the arrival of 1080p photos to its desktop client.
